The Chholas are first soaked overnight to make them soft.Early morning, the wife prepares a hot cuppa coffee for the entire family, while the hubby prepares the children for school.Breakfast is upma or idlis.
She then boils the chholas in a steel vessel for half an hour to make them tender. When the chollas are cooked, she deep fries the onions in a frying pan while adding salt, chilli powder, haldi and other spices. The Chollas are then added to the fried onions and the mixture is heated on a low flame till the ingredients come up to the right colour.
She then adds water to maida, kneads the dough and prepares small balls for frying in a kadai. After frying the maida rounds with a danda, the pedhas then become fluffy and enlarged.
The Chholas taste better with chopped chillies and onions.Curds along with Chollas and Bhaturas makes for a tasty meal for the family.Sweet Lassi goes well with Chholas and Bhaturas.
